The Holocaust memorial event took place on Friday 27th January, 72 years to the day from the liberation of Auschwitz. The Crossing was privileged to hold the event and welcomed speakers from the main faith communities in Walsall including Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and Christian leaders. We were also joined by civic leaders led by the Mayor and other members of the public. After each speech a candle was lit to remember victims of genocide throughout the years since the Holocaust. Perhaps the most moving moment was joining hands across the different communities and pledging to work for respect and unity today. During the morning and afternoon we were jojned by children of four local schools as they learnt about the Holocaust through the diaries of Anne Frank.

Pledge
‘Let us make a pledge today, never to be silent whenever human beings endure suffering and humiliation, We must always take sides of the oppressed. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Let us be united against all forms of hate and division and live together as brothers and sisters in humanity. ‘
